Each applicant will be reviewed by a panel of A. O. Smith personnel, The Water Council staff, and subject matter experts in the field of freshwater sciences.

The technology challenge will focus on four areas of interest to A. O. Smith:

  • Water treatment - High-efficiency water treatment technologies to remove contaminants such as trace heavy metals or microbiological  materials from drinking water, as well as to improve water aesthetic characteristics including taste, odor and scale formation;
  • Water heating - High-efficiency, low-emission water hearing technologies, most notably durable surface finish concepts, as well as components or systems that prolong the life of a water heater;
  • Sensors - Cost-effective sensor technologies for continuous or semi-continuous monitoring of trace level contaminants including heavy metals, bacteria and viruses, as well as other water quality indicators including hardness, total organic carbon and pH; and
  • IoT - Innovative technologies to sense and deliver information for residential and light commercial water applications as well as deliver extended battery life, reduced overall energy consumption, and predicted analytics.  Security technologies to protect users' privacy and manufacturers' intellectual property.

About BREW Corporate

Guidelines and requirements include:

  • Your idea must be thought through and have completed some customer interviews
  • Your idea fits with above technology challenge call areas: water treatment, water heating, sensors and IoT
  • Use the investor and technology readiness levels in the application (We are open to numerous phases in your start-up, what is important is to be accurate.)
  • You have a minimal viable product or are close to building one
  • You and / or your team must be willing to be at the Global Water Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin USA for the majority of the time
  • Complete your application online, not email, and answer all required questions

Recipients will gain:

  • 6 month start-up school tuition from September 2017 through March 2018
  • 12 month lease for office space in the Global Water Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
  • $50,000 investments as a 2 year convertible note
  • Access to our water network and preferred advisors
  • Access to investors
  • Access to local, national and international media
  • Showcased at WEFTEC, The Water Council’s events, and member meetings

Submission Criteria

To be considered for the BREW accelerator, a company must meet the following criteria:

  1. Have an idea or early stage start-up with a product that is water related or whose end users are water technology companies and users. 
  2. Commit to having a founder or C-level attendee at all sessions from September 2017-March 2018 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin USA.
  3. Commit to a 12 month lease in the Global Water Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin USA
  4. Be actively preparing to launch your idea to a business within the next 24 months.

Submission Criteria:

  1. Completed Application on the Global Water Port.
  2. Upload a current version of your Business Model Canvas as a supporting document to your application.
